So what stops you living the life you truly want? I am fairly sure the answer is you!
What makes you think you don’t deserve to have the life you want? I am fairly sure the answer is you!
Do other people really have control over you? I am fairly sure the answer is you are the one that is in control?
What stops you taking that step forward but perpetually living in the past? Well I guess by now you know what I am going to say – yes you!
I am sure there are many many more questions I could ask and they would all come back to the same thing – YOU! I guess the issue that could prevent you from taking those steps forward, finding that confidence to make those important changes to creating the life you want all come from a base of fear, rejection, failure amongst other barriers that you perceive to be there and continually ruminate over.
Imagine an Olympic Hurdler, their main aim to get to the finishing line first, they go for it with every bone in their body. Those hurdles don’t pose a barrier between where they are and where they want to go, they are just there to be dealt with. Some of the hurdles get knocked down along the way and some stay standing, one thing is for sure that if the finish line is reached all those hurdles are well and truly behind them and for absolute sure they did not hinder completion. Accidental knocking over of hurdles is not cause for disqualification, but they are weighted to make doing so disadvantageous.
I guess life is a bit like that we come up against our own hurdles and some of them we jump over and some fall down and therefore they slow us down. I believe the ones that slow us down are there, unlike with the Olympic Runner to create disadvantage, although that is something we may perceive to be true, but they are more a sign that we may need to slow down and reflect.
When we are feeling frustrated and perhaps angry that things are not falling in to place the way we would like them to it may be worth bearing in mind that those times that feel trickier than others, those times when we perceive that we have hit major obstacles are really the times to be embraced because they are the precious moments to find out who we really are and what we really want. If really taken advantage of they give us the chance to learn, grow, gain wisdom and really do push us in to a place of having more clarity about the kind of life we really want to create.
So consider when you hit your own hurdles whether you do take full advantage of them. Do you sit there and feel defeated focusing on your cuts and bruises or do you embrace the moment to grow so that you can get back up and stay in the race, trusting that the cuts and bruises will heal as long as you stop picking at them. My sense is that if you can learn to sit with the hurdles and understand them you will be giving yourself a massive opportunity to create the journey you want to be on. You really are capable of doing so, it just takes a bit of trust, a commitment to you and a belief that anything is possible. If you keep your sight on where you want to go and, most importantly, you see the hurdles not as something that pose a barrier but more there to be dealt with so to enhance your own unique path through life, then I believe you are already running on the track with the finish line in sight!
The only person standing in your way is you, so get out of your way and start creating!
